Diablo V is officially happening. Blizzard has revealed the next mainline entry in the Diablo series at BlizzCon 2026, and the sequel is taking the franchise into one of its darkest settings yet.
Diablo Has Already Won
Unlike previous games, Diablo V begins after the heroes have failed. Blizzard says Sanctuary has fallen and Diablo has conquered the world. Players will enter a setting where the Lord of Terror is no longer a distant threat waiting at the end of the story — his victory has already reshaped Sanctuary.

A New Sanctuary to Explore

The central idea is simple but unusual for Diablo: the player is not trying to stop the apocalypse before it happens. The apocalypse has already happened. That gives Blizzard an opportunity to build a world dominated by fear, ruined settlements, surviving communities and a much more powerful version of Diablo.
